Higher Education Commission has issued letter No. 8-39/HEC/A&A/2014/2875 dated 26-12-2014 in connection with Equivalence of BLIS Degree Awarded by AIOU.

The Bachelor of Library & Information Science degree (BLIS) awarded by Allama Iqbal Open University was simply a general bachelor degree in terms of entrance qualification/admission, duration course contents and such was not a professional degree and therefore could not be equated with Bachelor of Library & Information Science (BLIS) degree of the University of Peshawar and other universities which was a postgraduate degree of one year duration after Bachelor degree. The committee also noted that the degree of Library & Information Science (BLIS) of University of Peshawar and other universities was a postgraduate degree, hence a misnomer and therefore be appropriately renamed either as a Bachelor of honour degree or given some other appropriate name to avoid the confusion.

It may also be noted that admission in a university for further education and determination of suitability in relation to job requirement rest with the concerned university and employing agency, respectively and this commission has no role in such issues.
