Government of the Punjab, Local Government & Community Development Department has issued Notification on 28-04-2020 in connection with Discontinue Union Councils in Punjab wef 1^st May 2020. The details of the ending /abolishing of union councils in Punjab are as under:

All defunct Union Councils in Punjab which has been constituted under the Punjab Local Government Act, 2013. These will continue under Section 316 (2) of the Punjab Local Government Act, 2019 shall discontinue providing public services with effect from 1^st May 2020.

Public services provided by the defunct Union Councils till 30^th April 2020 shall be considered valid. But subject to due audit and administrative scrutiny under law, rules, and government policy or notified guidelines.

The defunct Union Councils shall be succeeded by such local governments as already notified by the Local Government and Community development Department vide “Chart of succeeding local government constituted under the PLGA, 2019”.
