The government of Pakistan has decided for the Opening of Educational Institutions wef 15th September 2020. The summary of the same decision is as under:
Opening of Educational Institutions (Schools, Colleges & Universities)
- Starting of Classes from 9th to higher in all schools, colleges, and Universities = 15-09-2020
- 6th to 8th Classes (Middle Classes) = 22-09-2020
- 1st to 5th Classes (Primary Classes) = 30-09-2020

The government has decided in principle to open ninth, tenth classes, universities, and colleges from September 15, while the first to fifth and sixth to eighth classes will be opened a week later.
According to details, a meeting of inter-provincial education ministers was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood in which Chairman and Executive Director HE along with provincial education ministers participated.
The Federal Ministry of Education presented proposals for the opening of stages and educational institutions, after which it was decided to open ninth, tenth classes, universities, and colleges from September 15.
Sources said that after opening the classes of the major parties, the Corona cases will be monitored. In view of the Corona situation, the activities from the sixth to the eighth will start in a week.
Provincial Education Ministers Agreement
All the provincial education ministers agreed to start educational activities in phases and said that coronavirus SOPs would be strictly enforced while students would be instructed to ensure admission in educational institutions with masks.
According to sources, the meeting decided to open the first to fifth and sixth to eighth classes a week later while considering the proposal to open hostels attached to educational institutions.
The meeting also discussed short academic syllabi and examinations in 2021 and the establishment of anti-harassment bodies in the Federal Directorate of Education in the provinces, while the issue of BECS, NCHD transition plan and uniform curriculum was also discussed.
The decisions of the meeting will be forwarded to the NCOC for final approval. The NCOC will give final approval regarding the opening of educational institutions.
It may be recalled that Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood while addressing a press conference had said that the final decision regarding the opening of educational institutions would be taken on September 7.
Shafqat Mehmood said that if the effects of the epidemic remain low till next year, the old schedule will be restored in the country. A proposal to gradually start classes at higher, middle, and primary levels is under consideration.
Special Assistant for Health Dr. Faisal Sultan had said that coronation is not over, it could increase again due to carelessness, the decision to close educational institutions was important to deal with the epidemic when 50 million children will go back to educational institutions A related proposal is also under consideration.

The schools/colleges, universities will not work as a double shift. Only 50% of students will come to the institution one day and the other the next day.
