Punjab Curriculum & Textbook Board issued a Notification on 28-7-2022 in connection with the Scheme of Studies Translation of the Holy Quran and Total Marks. The details are as under:

Kindly refer to the letter No.104-CE/P dated 25.07.2022 received from Controller of Examination, BISE, Lahore/PBCC on the subject captioned above (Copy enclosed).

in order to implement “The Punjab Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Act, 2018) amended in 2021, the Government of Punjab has introduced the subject of “Translation of the Holy Quran” at Secondary and Higher Secondary Levels. The Curriculum of the said subject is available at the PCTB’s Website (https://mis.pctb.punjab.gov.pk/home/get_subjects/cirriculums/49).

1. What will be the Scheme of Studies The scheme of Studies is available at the PCTB’s Website (https://mis.pctb.punjab.gov.pk/home/comments/1/Scheme_of_study) (Annex-A).
2. Total marks The Total Marks of this subject is as follows:

i.                     For SSC Exams: 100 Marks (50 in Part-I Exam and 50 in Part-II Exam)

ii.                   For HSSC Exams: 100 Marks (50 in Part-I Exam and 50 in Part-II Exam)

3. Either examination in the subject will be held in Part-I, Part-II, or both SSC and Intermediate This subject’s examination will be held in Part-I and Part-II of SCC (Matric) and HSSC (Intermediate).

3 Moreover, the Board of Governors (BoG) of PCTB has approved that the subject of “Ethics” they will teach to Non-Muslim students for Grades I-XII in lieu of “Naazrah Quran for Grades I-V” and translation of the Holy Quran for Grades VI-XII” (Annex-B).

The decision by the Board

The “BOARD” after detailed discussion and deliberations approved the following:

 

  1. The subject of “Ethics” will be taught to Non-Muslim students for Grades I-XII in lieu of “Naazrah Quran for Grades I-V” and “Translation of the Holy Quran for Grades VI-XII.”
  2. The subject of “Ethics for Grades I-XII” based on National Curriculum-2006 will be taught to non-Muslim students in lieu of “Islamiyat for Grades I-XII” for the Academic Session 2022-23, if its Model Textbooks are not received from NCC, MoFE&PT.
  3. The NCC, MoFE&PT be again requested at the earliest for the provision of model Textbooks of “Religious Education” comprising different religions i.e. Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Bahaism, Kslasha, Buddhism, & Zoroastrianism for Non-Muslim Students.
  4. The Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen (PBCC) being a competent forum be requested to take a decision to double the marks of “Ethics” for the subject of “Translation of the Holy Quran for Grades IX-XII.”
