I am sharing the details of the Assignment of Additional Charge of a Post and Additional Charge Allowance Rates for the information of employees. The department can assign the additional charge of a post to a civil servant of BPS-16 and above. The duration for the initial additional charge of a post is three months. The department may extend the period in consultation with the Finance Department for a further three months duration. (Ref: No. FD.SR-II-2-38/70, dated 17.03.1988).

Additional Charge Allowance Rates and Assignment of Additional Charge of a Post

The department may grant an Additional charge allowance at the rate of 20% of basic pay subject to a maximum of Rs.12,000/- per month. (Ref: No. FD. PC-2-1/2016 dated 18.07.2016)

Additional Charge of a Higher or Lower Post may be assigned to an officer

Additional Charge of a post of equal/higher/one step lower status can be assigned for the time stipulation as mentioned and allowance on this behalf can be allowed accordingly.

Terms and Conditions for the AC Post

The work of the vacant post, as for as feasible be distributed among more than one Government servant of the same status and designation available in the department.
Where the distribution of work is not possible the additional charge of the vacant post may be given initially for a period of three months by the competent authority. It may be extended for another 3 months in consultation with the Finance Department.
Immediately on expiry of the six-month duration of the additional charge of the particular vacant post, the post shall be treated as having been abolished and its duties automatically become part of the normal duties of the other existing posts of the same category in the department concerned. The post so treated as abolished shall not be revived without the prior approval of the Finance Department.
